Rotherham racing bike rev counter business goes for international growth

Woodview 1 smallRotherham-based Woodview Electronics, which owns the renowned Scitsu brand of racing tachometers (rev counters) for motorbikes, is expanding its business internationally thanks to support from RiDO's (Rotherham Investment & Development Office) Soft Landing Zone in conjunction with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

The company, owned by Dylan Stuchbury and based at the AMP Technology Centre in Rotherham, has recently exhibited for the first time at a motorsport show in Indianapolis, USA and had a great response.

Dylan is currently undertaking UKTI's Passport to Export course and was put in contact with Julia Millea from RiDO's Soft Landing Zone in Autumn 2013.

Over the past few months, Julia helped Dylan with completing the 'first steps' on the Passport to Export programme, which included securing funding for an export communication review. This will mean he can internationalise his website, making it accessible in many different languages and to trade in different currencies to extend his business in many countries across Europe and for the Japanese market. Julia has also carried out extensive research into other markets worldwide, which will enable Dylan to formulate a marketing plan to target and grow more business opportunities across the world.

Dylan is now planning to follow this up by exhibiting at a number of race meetings in the US this summer, in New Jersey and Daytona.

Dylan Stuchbury, owner of the Scitsu brand, said: "Most of our customers are currently based in the UK and we recognised there were huge opportunities for us to go global. Working with RiDO and UKTI means I have been able to access research and gain support for developing my website to generate more international business. The US for example has a huge appetite for motor racing, as has Japan and the rest of Europe, so we are very excited about being able to grow our business in these markets."

Julia Millea, business development co-ordinator for RiDO's Growth and Prosperity in Rotherham, Soft Landing Zone said: "There are a great many opportunities for the Scitsu brand to be sold overseas and the research we have done into international events and markets should help the company to secure exciting new opportunities in these markets. As UK GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is only 3% of World GDP, there is huge potential out there for local companies, plus lots of support available through RiDO's Soft Landing Zone and UKTI to help businesses to grow their export sales and stimulate new overseas markets."

The ERDF Growth and Prosperity in Rotherham (Soft Landing Zone) project is supported financially by the European Union. It has attracted £842k investment from the European Regional Development Fund as part of Europe's support for the region's economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme 2007-13.
